Contract

Practice. Student will practice on a daily basis. The amount of practice time, and the quality of the instrument on which it is conducted, will be a function of the age and skill level of the student. However, to ensure the practice is effective, student will use an instrument that can at least simulate the touch of a piano.

Calendar. This contract applies to calendar year 2002, for which instructor will provide a complete listing of available lesson days and times. Student will coordinate with Instructor to schedule lessons in accordance with this attachment. Only sessions purchased in advance at the rates described below may be reserved.

Rates. Half hour and full hour private lessons will be available in blocks of one, five, ten, twenty, and forty. The price per lesson will decrease as the number of lessons increases. Instructor will provide a detailed listing of all packages and prices.

Payment of Fees. All fees are payable in advance. Student has the option of paying for sessions individually on the day of the lesson by simply purchasing them in blocks of one. However, as mentioned earlier, lesson times may not be reserved until sessions are purchased. Therefore, to guarantee the availability of preferred days and times, student may wish to consider purchasing sessions in larger blocks.

Cancelled/Missed Lessons. If either party is unable to attend a scheduled lesson, the other party will be contacted at least 24 hours in advance. An alternate date, suitable to both parties, will then be reserved for the session. If several scheduled lessons are expected to be missed because of a known extended absence (e.g., a vacation), notice will be given one week in advance. Lessons missed by student without notice will be rescheduled at the discretion of instructor, depending upon circumstances and time availability. Lessons missed by instructor without notice will be rescheduled at the convenience of student.

Methods & Lesson Plans. A wide variety of teaching techniques, or methods, is available. Instructor will evaluate student’s individual characteristics and select the method most suited to student’s strengths and weaknesses. Instructor and student will then jointly establish goals for student’s progress. Finally, instructor will prepare a lesson plan suitable for assisting student in the achieving those goals.

Materials. Each method has it’s own set of published materials. Instructor will facilitate student’s purchase of the appropriate materials at the publishers suggested retail price, plus shipping and handling. A variety of materials are already in the studio’s inventory, but delays in delivery should be expected for those that aren’t.

Recitals. Instructor will arrange an appropriate number of recitals for the student. Participation will be optional, and student will be charged a nominal fee designed to recover the cost of the recital. The number of guests student may invite will be dictated by the size of the facility, but guest attendance will be free.
